Starting from strengths is one of my core values

The case for shifting from a deficit attitude of what’s wrong and what’s the problem to a compassionate, enabling approach that starts from what matters and what you’re really good at is compelling. It improves people’s lives, motivation and happiness. Focusing on strengths is a core part of who I am and what I do.

I’ve been privileged to bring lived experience to my work and have spent the last few years working with professionals enabling them to take a strengths-based approach with the people they are supporting, in turn, to enable people to live their best lives and increase their independence. For public services this is of course a huge priority - not only does a strengths-based approach improve outcomes, it also reduces demand on public services.

I’d love to share my knowledge and approaches with you. We can work together to understand how strengths-based principles and approaches best translate for your circumstances. It’ll be a bespoke programme that works for you.

To give you a feel for what it could include, here are some of the things I’ve done working with other organisations:

  • Led the codesign of an immersive development programme that builds understanding, wins hearts and minds and equips participants with practical tools and techniques to work in a strengths-based way. This programme was underpinned by the psychology of change and was a finalist in the Health Service Journal Partnership Awards 2020 for People and Organisational Development Initiative of the Year

  • Co-developed the inaugural strengths-based practice standards for adults social work in partnership with Prof Sam Baron, co-author of DHSC Strengths Based Practice Framework, and commissioned professional supervision training for all social work managers

  • Facilitated weekly communities of practice with front line health and social care staff to coach in new ways of working, enable reflective practice and promote creative problem solving

  • Designed and delivered Strengths-Based Care Training for care staff and managers (including a Train the Trainer model) within Adult Social Care Provider organisations

  • Worked within an Adults Social Care Assessment Service to redesign forms, process, guidance and decision making to support strengths-based working
